The Mayor of South Dublin, Cllr Cathal King, was on hand on Friday, 11th January to officially open the new home of Sacred Heart Boxing Club in Donomore Park, Killinarden.
The new clubhouse is located in a purpose-built community centre that has been provided to the club by Co-operative Housing Ireland (CHI) Dublin South. This is the first time that the club will have a dedicated facility since their foundation in 1978.
Sacred Heart Boxing Club provides training and activities for more than 100 members from the local community from six years of age and up.
The opening ceremony for the new facility was attended by CHI Board Member and local resident, Jackie Grant, and by Brendan Mac Phiarais, manager of CHI Dublin South.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Mac Phiarais said: “This new home for Sacred Heart Boxing Club provides an excellent example of Co-operative Living. CHI is thrilled to have been able to support a well-respected local club and we’re looking forward to working with Sacred Heart in the future”. Mr. Mac Phiarais thanked Mayor King for his role in putting the club and the Co-operative in touch: “we’re very grateful to the Mayor and to everyone at South Dublin County Council for their support in making this happen”.
