Co-operative Engagement Officer

Co-operative Housing Ireland, the national federation for the co-operative housing movement, Co-operative Housing Ireland is recruiting a Co-operative Engagement Officer, to be based in our Head office in Dublin.

Since 1973, Co-operative Housing Ireland has supported the provision of more than 5,500 homes across Ireland and continues to manage over 2,500 homes through a network of local co-operatives.

We are actively developing new housing across Ireland, as well as serving as one of the leading representative bodies for the co-operative movement.

Reporting to the Policy & Communications Manager, the Co-operative Engagement Officer will be responsible for the promotion of the co-operative ethos and principles among our membership and the general public.

 

1.    Responsibilities:

 

  • To develop and implement a Membership Engagement Strategy.
  • To assist Housing Officers in the continuous improvement of our member induction process (Information & Familiarisation).
  • To work with members to assist them in understanding and applying the co-operative principles in their participation in co-operative housing Management Committees and Local Area Boards.
  • To provide advice and suggestions to members in co-ordinating member events.
  • To co-ordinate and facilitate workshops and training relating to the co-operative ethos and principles and membership capacity building.
  • To provide support and advice to potential new self-help, start-up housing co-operatives, including registering the Rules of new co-operatives with the Registrar of Friendly Societies.
  • To manage membership/affiliation applications from new housing co-operatives.
  • To co-ordinate training for members of local housing co-operatives.
  • To establish and maintain good working relationships with partners, other like-minded organisations and stakeholders, to help identify member needs, overcome barriers to engagement and promote the co-operative ethos.
  • To identify funding and complete grant applications for engagement work in partnership with members.
  • Any other duties as required by management

 

This role will involve regular evening work and travel and occasional weekend work.

 

2.    Eligibility/Personal requirements

 

Education, Experience & Knowledge

Essential

  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong analytical & report writing skills and experience
  • 2 years’ experience in a similar environment

 

Desirable

  • Third level qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. community development, community leadership, co-operative development)
  • Knowledge of and experience in the social housing and/or co-operative sector

 

Personal Attributes

 

  • Proven ability to work on own initiative within a flexible, co-operative team structure
  • Friendly and approachable manner
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Self-motivated, with a proven ability to get things done and work to deadlines.

 

  1. Conditions of Employment
Salary

Salary for this position is €32,000

 

Annual Leave

Annual leave will be 22 days, exclusive of public holidays.

 

Pension

Co-operative Housing Ireland offers a Defined Contributions Pension with an 8% Employer Contribution on completion of Probation.

 

Location of the position

The successful candidate will be based in our Head Office in Dublin but may be required to undertake some travel.
