Celebrating the launch of 46 New Homes at The Rectory
There was lots of excitement in Blessington, Co. Wicklow on Friday, October 4th, as 46 new homes were officially launched at The Rectory.
It was a very special day with a great turn out by Member Tenants, Government officials, including Taoiseach Simon Harris, Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien, Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Paul O’Brien, media representatives, and Co-operative Housing Ireland (CHI) staff all in attendance.
A Day of Celebration
The day kicked off with a series of speeches opened by our CEO Kieron Brennan who welcomed attendees and expressed his pride in CHI’s continued role in delivering high-quality housing for communities across Ireland. Our Chairperson Pearse O'Shiel closed the speeches and initiated a ribbon cutting.
Taoiseach Simon Harris: A Milestone in Addressing Housing Challenges
In his speech, Taoiseach Simon Harris highlighted the significance of the day. He said, "Housing is the greatest challenge our country faces," Harris acknowledged, "but today’s launch is a further signal of real progress being made in communities across the country. I am really pleased to be here in my home county to open these 46 homes, which will help 46 families find their forever home. Every single day, this Government will do everything we can to build more homes and create more homeownership. Today is a further example of that."
A New Beginning for Member Tenants
It was extra special to hear from Member Tenant Gerry Malone about his personal experience and the excitement he shares being part of a new community.
"This move has truly made a positive difference in my life. Our neighbours are lovely, and there’s a strong sense of community here. I’m thrilled to be in a CHI home; the co-operative model is fantastic, and the housing standard is very high."
Reflecting on Progress
CHI Chairperson Pearse O'Shiel closed the event by talking about the crucial role Approved Housing Bodies (AHB’s) like CHI play in delivering housing to those who need it most.
I am delighted to welcome the 46 households to the wider Co-operative Housing Ireland community. Last year we delivered a record 849 new homes and now provides more than 5,500 nationally. It is our goal to continue to deliver much needed social homes.’
These homes, located close to local amenities, showcase CHI's commitment to creating quality homes that meet the needs of our communities. The positive impact on people's lives was clear to see, as new member tenants embraced their beautiful homes and the vibrant community around them.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to An Taoiseach Simon Harris TD, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage Darragh O’Brien TD, and Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr Paul O’Brien, for joining us and helping us launch this wonderful event.
Congratulations to our new member tenants! 🎉
